I've become a little jaded to scroungers, It seems I can't walk out the front door without someone stopping me with a hard luck story these days, my stock automatic reply is,"Sorry I can't help you, good luck!" It gets quite tiresome having to do this so often.
However, the other day I did get a chuckle out of one of the regulars who begs for change in our area.
The first time I became aware of him he had a strongly nasal speaking voice and appeared to have trouble pronouncing words, his limbs were twisted and he moved awkwardly and jerkily like someone with a motor function disorder. A few years later I noticed that he must have had a miraculous recovery as he had joined the military, gone off to war and lost an arm in combat defending his country. Unfortunately, not long after this, his old health problems had returned, but on the upside, he had managed to grow his arm back. Since then he has been working the front of the local supermarket, I saw him recently outside a different supermarket and to top off all his other problems he now appears to have gone blind as he was sporting dark glasses and carrying a blind stick, apparently in a great state of agitation he was actually trying to trip people up with his stick while shaking his change cup and whining pitifully for help.
