I agree with you re the brandy.
We tend to drink Aldi Cognac which is quite smooth.
Our daughter bought me a good brandy a few years ago and that was nice.
I used to make sloe gin and enjoy it. Then one year I thought what a waste of gin. No matter what you do it’s never as good as that first Gordon's and fat tonic and slice of lime.
The shoot I used to beat on back in the seventies I was given £5 and a bottle of Newcastle Amber for lunch. Think it was the whisky which caused us to get showered with pellets after lunch
