Ok, sometimes pressed flowers in botany, also kidney-shaped leaves (or bean-shaped leaves) but the prefix reni- leads back to the kidney. I used to have a nephrologist, because I've got a dodgily-plumbed in kidney, who worked in the renal clinic, and he never ever brought up the question of pressed flowers or red beans.
Well, if you want to be truly pedantic, they both mean exactly the same:-
- reniform, from the Latin as you say = kidney shaped
- nephroid, from the Greek nephros = kidney shaped.
Hence a renal unit full of nephrologists.
