Not much of a quiz - driving at 20 mph rather 30 mph in urban areas gives you more chance of avoiding an collision if something unexpected happens ... well, I'm glad we cleared that one up.

In fairness though, the important point is that you can't stop, or even slow down if something happens 3 cars' length ahead when you're going thirty. The version which made a bit impression on me was the fact that if you're doing (legally) 30mph and start to overtake a stationary bus at the instant someone steps out from behind it, you will hit them before you've even touched the brake pedal. I was skeptical till I checked the numbers, but it's right.
