I've been hit wearing high viz (head on by a ford sierra - remember them!) and 'winged' by a BMW (think it was a 3 Series, undertaking a fellow motorist - don't know if he saw me or not as the sod never stopped). I've tried making eye contact, which is pretty reliable but you still get the odd person who will smile and even nod at you before pulling out and then looking really hurt when you remonstrate with them, and it doesn't work if they are behind you (though looking over your shoulder a lot does seem to unerve them, however, it can lead to a stiff neck and riding into parked cars). I've decided, therefore, that I will wear high viz (most of the time) for the benfit of fellow cyclists and so that the next time I get hit I can say "What do you mean you didn't see me - I'm dressed up like a F-wording cosmic lemon!" assuming I am still capable of speech. Cycle defensively folks...
