Having posted the word sh1t, correctly spelled, I have now been banned from this thread:

http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/should-words-like-be-allowed-on-cc.111020/

You are currently banned from contributing to this thread.
The ban is in effect until: 18 Sep 2012 at 19:00
Reason given for this ban:
Intentionally using forum code to bypass the language filter.

Fortunately, I had nothing further to add to it but I have learned my lesson and and will in future only refer to crap, ordure, excrement, pooh, merde, faeces whilst using this forum.

If anyone was offended by my use of the word sh1t, then I humbly apologise, although I would point out that sh1t happens.

It says that the thread ban was because you intentionally evaded the language filter. That was not something which happened accidentally, you chose to use forum code to split the word so it wouldn't get picked up.

I would be surprised if anyone really needed a warning that there would be sanctions if they chose to deliberately break the forum's rules.

So we can refer to sh1t but only if we don't spell it right?

all communities go off the rails from time to time. The locked thread was a slight affair, not in the best of taste, but harmless. It would have petered out within a day or so, and the internet would have survived. As with all these things, the banning of something confers on it a status it would never have achieved otherwise.

The FNRttC sometimes inspires a bit of harrumphing. Styles differ, with some riders preferring to race along like BW on speed. Others adopt the secondary position. Then again, some riders have a reputation for not talking to anybody other than their immediate friends. People come up to me and say 'such-and-such is riding like an idiot'. Sometimes I have a quiet word (overtaking on the left is a big no-no), but, in the great majority of cases, things sort themselves out and people get in to the groove. If someone is a danger and not open to persuasion then he or she (in truth it's always a he) is banned - but in seven years that's happened just three times.

I reckon that's one of the ride's strengths - that it can evoke a kind of team spirit. CC (a much, much larger enterprise) has considerable, nay vast team spirit, and I think that Scoosh can depend on that team spirit to even things out in the longer run.

Who would want to?

Is it too much to expect you to read the terms & rules? There's not many of them and it would be easier if you could read them than asking questions which are already addressed. There's a link down there.**points to bottom right of screen**

The thread ban was because you intentionally evaded the filter. If you do read the rules, you'll see that is one of the sanctions available.

And don't mistake the rules with the language filter, the two are not synonymous.

Thanks for your advice. Perhaps you could guide me to the particular rule that you feel I should pay more observance to? If the rules are distinct from the language filter, may I ask how evading said filter is, per se, an infringement of the rules?

Please continue this conversation privately if you prefer. We don't want to frighten the horses!
