How much does it cost to Oldham?
Seriously thank you all for the info so far.
I can start to do some proper searching, Berlin I hadn't looked at at all nor had I looked at (or even heard of) airbnb. I had started by looking at things like Amsterdam, Dublin, Edinburgh, Barcelona, but was getting all befuddled with choices of places I had no experience of. So.....now I'm getting some great suggestions from people that have real experience and that's invaluable. Thank you all again.
Bruges.

@Mugshot - my 25th's in May as well, but on the 23rd.

We're planning something much more simple: a couple of nights away but in Yorkshire since the kids will be on their own. My then 17yo will be looking after his younger brother.
Simple is fine, it's the break and the company that count. My son is still at home but he's 27, my eldest daughter left home years ago and has her own family, my younger daughter is 15 she's high functioning autistic, independent but can't be left alone for too long, she'll stop with my mum and dad or stay home with her brother. Frankly I'll be able to sort of forget about them and spend a childless day or two with my wife which we haven't had for a quarter of a century.

I'm after some opinions and suggestions if pos please.
It's my 25th wedding anniversary this year, 2nd of May, and we're thinking it'd be nice for us to have a short break, maybe from the Sunday to the Wednesday. We really don't mind where we go and at the same time have no idea where we should consider going. We haven't got a bottomless pit of money I'm thinking around 700ish, we don't want the journey time to be too long so that we're losing lots of holiday time, we don't mind UK or Europe, we don't mind board basis or even self catering. We both like looking at things, not necessarily high brow cultural, but neither of us are lie round the pool all day types. One big consideration is that my wife is a coeliac, so (and I'm stereotyping here but I hope you get the point) if Rome was all pasta and pizza it's not really going to be suitable. The only other given is that if we fly it'd be from Cardiff or Bristol.
So, I'd love to hear all experiences and recommendations and suggestions of where to go or not to go, because I'm looking at everything but I could do with having a clue where to start.
Prague is my favourite city, but paying about 80p a pint might have something to do with that!

Now my wife was looking at Prague and thought it looked beautiful, but, she read that the restaurants can be a bit awkward with people sometimes which could be a nightmare because of the coeliac. Now it could be that this was as a result of dealing with some obnoxious stag party, but it did put us off.

Theres loads of restaurants in Prague,i doubt they will all be awkward. The smaller ones are grateful for the custom and are really friendly. It is a beautiful city though and 3 days will be plenty as its not that big.

I had the same anniversary last June. We went to Mull - a second floor apartment in the big red house that appears in every waterfront picture of Tobermory.

This was indeed a nod to our honeymoon, on the Ardnamurchan peninsula. Not an exact repeat, but nearby, visiting some of the same places.

Krakow and Gdansk are good places for a weekend. Can fly from Cardiff. Your money goes a long way and they're not full of stag and hen loons.
