My 45 mile ride HERE could be extended from Midhurst to Petersfield, Havant, and then back to Chichester, but I'm unsure of the A3, is it good to cycle, or best not to..?

Your thoughts are apreciated...tomorrow is an spare day, and I need a ride!:laugh:

Avoid like the plague!

Poor facilities and fast road, with cycle deviations at every junction.

South Harting
Towards Compton and turn right at Littlegreen School
At crossroads turn to Finchdean and Rowlands Castle
Down through Havant, and take old A259 to Chichester.

Or

From South Harting loop out to Petersfield then on to East Meon, Clanfield and stop at the cafe in Rowlands Castle, near where the railway crosses Finchdean Road. Rather that using the A259 back to Chichester use the small roads to Westbourne, Woodmancote, West Ashling Road, Clay Lane and on to Chichester. The 259 can be quite traffic heavy.

@forty-two.......many thanks for that....

In the end my extra mileage detour was, at Bury, rather than Turning left for Fittleworth, I continued up the A29 to Billingshurst, then Wisborough Green, then Petworth, and back to my original ride.

I left at 5.45am, and it took four hours....

This detour SHOWN HERE added 12 miles, making 57 total.

I'm surprised that I felt rather more knackered than I expected!
