A39 Bideford/Bude - Would you?

Will be visiting fairly soon and looking for a nice route I can do in the mornings for an hour or so, but it's hard to find a route without having to use the A39 at some point. Having never been on it before, is this a road a cyclist should avoid?

I only know it from davidstowe towards wadebridge but that but down there is lovely and scenic and much quieter than the a30! Lol. Sorry cant be of more help! Lol
