Pensioner who dresses like an infant, that's pretty good :0)

IMO much more interesting than dressing like a pensioner.

I went off Connolly after his crack at the expense of Ken Bigly poorly timed and in poor taste. I feel it was a bit too far.

I prefer Connolly's documentaries because he comes across as a real humanist to me.

I don't find him overly funny but all comedy is subjective and there's no two ways that he's a very clever man. Long may he strive.
Same here. His comedy has always been a bit too swearing-and-slapstick for me, but his first two series of 'travels on the trike' were a delight. As others have said, certainly a greater contributor to national happiness than a self-regarding columnist. It's a bit of a scab-picking occupation, being a Critic.

Have any of you read Billy's Autobiography(s)?
Seeing what happened to him as a kid, its no wonder he is what he is!

Oh and the swearing? He worked in the shipyards, that's how people talked, in fact many (including Billy) still do, it isn't deliberate, its just part of who they are.

I've heard him talk about it several times. He is a man of huge inner strength.

And what he is is a very sharp observational comedian. Some very funny people - Morecambe and Wise, for instance - would script and rehearse down to the last foot movement, but Billy just went on with no preparation and a vague idea of how long his spot was. A quality performer.

Quite. Also, is it just me, or did anyone, on looking at that picture in the link have difficulty in determining what one was the Baboon?

if you have £2.75 million to spare you can buy his house.

I guess he's moving out of Scotland due to his illness.

Oh, not so attractive.

I remember the story where he had some sort of bet or similar that he could do a different show every night on tour once. Unsurprisingly he won.
He just says what comes into his mind, there's no way you can script that!

You only have to watch his 'on tour' series to see how a good chunk of every performance comes straight from his observations of the place he's in today, whether on account of its being windy, or having an interesting museum, or things he overheard wandering round the local market.

I've been told AA Gill is funny, but an arse. I wouldn't know, never having read him. I know Billy Connolly is funny, and I suspect he isn't actually an arse, though I also suspect he doesn't suffer fools gladly, and would give short shrift to sneery right-wingers, funny or not.
