Evil, Vernon.
Pensioner who dresses like an infant, that's pretty good :0)
But Parkinson's will be the death of his career.
Same here. His comedy has always been a bit too swearing-and-slapstick for me, but his first two series of 'travels on the trike' were a delight. As others have said, certainly a greater contributor to national happiness than a self-regarding columnist. It's a bit of a scab-picking occupation, being a Critic.I prefer Connolly's documentaries because he comes across as a real humanist to me.
I don't find him overly funny but all comedy is subjective and there's no two ways that he's a very clever man. Long may he strive.
I've heard him talk about it several times. He is a man of huge inner strength.Have any of you read Billy's Autobiography(s)?
Seeing what happened to him as a kid, its no wonder he is what he is!
And what he is is a very sharp observational comedian. Some very funny people - Morecambe and Wise, for instance - would script and rehearse down to the last foot movement, but Billy just went on with no preparation and a vague idea of how long his spot was. A quality performer.Oh and the swearing? He worked in the shipyards, that's how people talked, in fact many (including Billy) still do, it isn't deliberate, its just part of who they are.
if you have £2.75 million to spare you can buy his house.
I guess he's moving out of Scotland due to his illness.

You only have to watch his 'on tour' series to see how a good chunk of every performance comes straight from his observations of the place he's in today, whether on account of its being windy, or having an interesting museum, or things he overheard wandering round the local market.I remember the story where he had some sort of bet or similar that he could do a different show every night on tour once. Unsurprisingly he won.
He just says what comes into his mind, there's no way you can script that!
