One of my favourites is RTFM. Simply because I have to use it so much at work. Well, I wish I could use it at work and get away with it!.

The other day, I was sorely tempted to use it on a Spanish-based colleague. But I'm afraid I chickened out (E-mails can get forwarded on, you know!). I was considering how to render it in Spanish. "LECDM"* or something? Perhaps TPIS can help out here?

You're completely right, of course - I was just being a bit formal.

Meanwhile, I have absolutely no idea what TPIS means

RTFM would translate roughly to LEMDM (lea el manual de miedra)

TPIS is my username 'ThePainInSpain'

So chosen because when I first joined and was new to cycling I was in Spain and in Pain when I came back from a ride.
Fortunately that didn't last long.
Also though according to some of my 'friends' I am a pain in the arse PITA

Thank you. I shall remember that. If only I could use it, without getting sacked! The Spanish contact (actually he's from Barcelona, so his native tongue is Catalan) has been a PITA for years! Now how does that translate? .....

Lisez le putain mode d'emploi (LLPMDE). Just in case you get caught somewhere between Spain and England...
What was it that Nicolas Anelka called his coach, again? "Sale fils de pute"* or something?

Ooops sorry! We're on abbreviations, not insults. As you were...

*"Dirty SoB". But the French is ruder.

Since joining this esteemed forum, I too have wondered about some of the acronyms. The ones I struggled most with (some discussed above) were:

LEJOG - Lands End - John O'Groats
FNRTTC- Friday Night Ride to the coast. (I often wonder which coast and from where? Is it an all nighter?)
MTFU - Man the F*ck up!
BSO- Bicycle shaped object- had me stumped for weeks until I eventually Googled it. Even then it was a struggle!
FWIW- For what it's worth

Any bit of coast within 60-70 miles of London, and yes. Not managed to go on one yet.

Up here in t'North, we've had a couple of FNRtSR - Friday Night Rides to Somewhere Random - in practice, also the coast, 60-70 miles from York.

There's nothing like a breakfast you've earned by riding 60 miles through the night.

Sounds like great fun! For me that distance would probably take a bit longer than one night. It would have to be re-named the FNUSMRTTC (Friday night until Sunday morning ride to the coast!)
