Planning permission has been granted for a velo park in Abergavenny.

I'm not entirely sure what a velopark is all about but seems like not a bad thing. I think it may involve people having fun.

I'm sure some might see it as the thin end of the wedge trying to corral us off the roads.

It's going to be in Llanfoist, near the tip.

I used to live in Abergavenny decades ago, so I have a bit of an interest.

The mills of Gwent grind slowly, yet they grind exceeding small ...

A mention of Abergavenny in another thread made me wonder whether any progress had been made on this. Perhaps it was already open? Or at least had a planned opening date?

Well, no.

They spent a couple of years arguing about toilets. But hurrah! In early 2024 they resolved the toilet problem. Nothing has been reported since.

I designed the circuit for this at planning. It should make for a tough racing circuit when it finally gets built with some 10% sections so a step up from most of the fairly generic circuits BC got built during the cycling boom 10-15 years ago.

An ex-clubmate of mine is the driving force behind it and was the planning consultant. As with lots of planning schemes it was held up by the phosphate issues. The last I heard was a few months back where they were looking at getting some phased work on it using various S106 monies etc. and were trying to get the various grant pots available to do the whole thing. Hopefully I'll be able to get the detailed design of it done soon, it's nice to have a project to work on that excites you.

I did the initial design for the one in Hereford too but that got dumbed down / made into more of a community facility depending on your point of view. The original plan there was to make it suitable for National level racing and Hereford's mayor was the main driving force, BC weren't interested then after it got planning BC became interested and changed it so that also took a fair few years.

Was wondering about the Hereford track. We went there once, and it seems so much an 'almost' track, not big enough for even regional level racing, but looking a little too serious for a casual track to mess around on.
