Some of you will know that I'm moving south of Hadrian's Wall (much to Noodles disgust ) to do my Masters at University of London. I know the company I work for have places all over the Uk so, when my place at Uni was confirmed in early July, I contacted the HR Dept and enquired about transferring my job from Aberdeen to London. I was told 'No problem. You've gave us enough notice and it saves us time interviewing for people we don't know. We will have you in place for then'.

About 4 days before I'm going to move, it seems that they are now being more reluctant to transfer me. I have applied for a huge amount of jobs that have been advertised internally without a single reply or acknowledgement. The HR bods were supposed to be matching jobs for me, nope, nothing, not a sausage. No replies to any of my e-mails asking what is going on.

This is about to leave me in the shoot as I need a job. This crowd are about to let me down and not the first employer to do that to me.

WTF is it with companies in the UK these days? They have an employee who works for them and wants to continue working for them and they are quite happy to let that person go. I got my P45 from them on Saturday morning through the post. I don't finish at my place in Aberdeen until Wed. Would they rather take on people who they do not know and who could be useless? I'm getting utterly sick and tired of being shoot on and lied to time and time again. I've yet to meet an honest manager. They say one thing and then, when your back is turned, in goes the knive and it's turned 360 degrees. Then these same bosses complain about the attitude of UK staff!! No bloody surprise.

I cannot wait until 2013 when I finish my course because I'm out of this shoot hole of a country.

There is one lesson here and that is to get everything in writing!

That's the trouble with living in Scotland, CM!

Sorry to hear of your troubles, Cookie!

The one consolation is that you'll soon be on your way to something and somewhere better.

That's low, if they didn't want to transfer you either because there weren't suitable roles or simply because they didn't want to keep you on then they should have had the guts to simply tell you. Did they even give you a proper notice or did they just send the p45? It's not worth the bother but if there wasn't a proper notice period then that's not right for HR to do. It's pretty shoot. I'm sure things will work out fine, good luck with the studies and perhaps see you on a ride in London. You may well find that companies may be the sane in another country, they certainly aren't built towards looking after employees, myself and I'm sure many others have horror stories

If you have an email stating that they'll sort the transfer then you can push for it, however this will take up time and it's up to you whether you wish to do this

I gave them notice that my last day at the unit in Aberdeen would be 31st August so I would be able to start elsewhere after that. They knew this and were happy with it. Got the P45 through the post yesterday. Tempted to send the HR dept boss an e-mail complaint as this is not the way to treat any honest employee. The thing is that there are plenty of suitable roles, I see the ads on the internal e-mail system, so the jobs are there.

I wonder if some wires have been crossed here? If the person who was dealing with your "resignation" didn't know you had been offered a transfer that could well explain the situation you are now in.

I'm inclined to say that they were possibly being dishonest, I don't know if your company has one payroll dept or several tied in with each location. If it's the former and you're asking for a transfer, it would make no sense for a p45 to be issued?

If you want something to happen you have to raise a formal grievance, I suspect if they want to get rid of you they will do sweet FA. Which leaves you only with the option of a tribunal. They are hard, stressful and unpleasant. If you want a fresh start don't take that route as it will drag on and be incredibly unpleasant. It doesn't make this any less wrong, it is just up to you as to whether you fight this battle

The P45 issue is confusing me as well.

I would definitely try to get contact details of the Head of HR and perhaps try to phone them up to discuss the situation? Might get sorted out with their intervention? It sounds like a case of HR folks being lazy to me, a well aimed boot up the backside from Senior Management could surely get something sorted, one would hope.

Sorry to hear this, Cookie.
