maybe time to get a rear video camera such as a GoPro or a cheaper Cycliq Fly6

I will get one before Christmas as I've had a few near misses and the only proof that you will have is when it's recorded

recently went into London, and I saw that many cyclists have video recorders/GoPro's .... I've yet to see a rider in Cambridge who uses one for commuting. If more cyclists get these, taxi drivers and bus drivers will be a lot more careful when it comes to cyclists

They're great as a back up, or a "Last Card" to lay on the table, when the other person says it never happened.

I never cease to be astonished at the arrogance of road users who feel they have the right to opine on the clothing, road positioning, or other choices of cyclists. Just consider offering "Well, you should't have bought a Range Rover, should you, they are so unreliable." "Audis - overpriced rubbish." or, much more likely, "Old Corsas give you so much status."

thats what I'm trying to say .... if a car or a taxi or a bus takes you out, they will always blame you, even if they were at fault, and if you don't have proof of what happened, it's your word against theirs unless there are witnesses who are willing to testify

if you do high mileage, the £99 for a cycliq Fly 6 is a wise choice as it's your 'insurance'

here's a pic of a guy from another forum who recently got taken out by a taxi .... he needs major dental surgery and his bike is a write-off:

I've taken out a Wiggle bike insurance for 2 of my bikes .... I've opted for the Elite package (comprehensive) .... one bike is insured for £1250 and the other for £1000 (they are both used/2nd hand bikes) .... I get legal cover and a whole lot more .... costs me £17 and a few pence per month for both bikes, but I commute over 200 miles a week so it's something that I need. There are cheaper insurances around, so it's worthwhile having an insurance.

Hi.
As the title suggests I had a near miss tonight with a bus. I was just coming back from a 16 mile ride and was coming back into my town when I was aware there was a bus behind me. He stayed behind me for a few moments waiting for an opportunity to over take me. When he did he left me about 12 inches from my handle bars from the side of his bus. At the time my wheels were about a 1 and half feet from the kerb. Jesus I saw red with the driver and when I caught him up 100 metresfurther up at the traffic lights I gave him a piece of my mind. According to him though it was my fault because I should of been riding on the path which incidentally is a bike path but its only about 200 metres long and in all honest was not going to stop my 16 mile ride to mount such a short pathway. I duly told him I have every right to cycle on the stretch of road like many cyclist do every day of the year. His answer was roads are not for bikes. After hearing this I told him I was going to report him to the police and his company. He then went quiet and muttered that its all been recorded and drove off. I was that angry I forgot to get the reg of his bus but luckily the bus depot was just down the road and I managed to take a photo of his bus reg. As soon I took a photo another bus driver came out of the building ranting at me. He said i should be wearing a hi viz jacket and ask where are my lights. I had switched them off when I entered the bus depot .I switched my two front ones on and my rear which are bright enough for any road conditions. ( The Aldi cob ones )..
Before I go ranting and raving to his boss and the Police does anybody here think that I may be in the wrong. Seriously if you do please tell me and why but personally I think his driving and his attitude towards me was appalling.
Rant over and thank you for reading and any input given.

I had the same yesterday with a Stagecoach Bus. I got his reg number, the route number and time, then reported it to Stagecoach. They seem to be particularly bad for this, and I've had this happen a few times / done this before. They all have CCTV on board, so there should be some recorded footage

That poor guy looks horrendous. I live in a reflectively quiet part of the country and I don't think I would have the nerve to cycle through places like London on a day to day basis.
Could be other implications too, he might get even closer the next time and destroy someone else's life.

Report him immediately, very good chance the bus will have a forward facing camera so give this evidence a chance to be viewed before it is over written - if it was a bad pass then I couldn't care less if he gets sacked, in fact it could be a nice shot over the bows for other so called professional drivers.
That's why I said report it.
