Abstrads!!

Got off the train today in London to find both Brommie tyres flat. Sat and dutifully repaired them and each had a clean round hole in the side of the tyre and inner tube. Some abstrad had clearly spiked them. It was a busy train and the bike was in the doorway while I was sat down so I wouldn't have seen or heard it happen. May karma rule and they come back as a slug on a busy cyclepath in their next life.

Why on earth would anyone do such a thing? I cannot fathom.

I once saw a yoof smashing the windows of one of those old red telephone boxes. When I asked him why he was doing it, he replied that he was bored. I was so angry, it took me all my strength not to punch his lights out there and then.

Shouldn't be a problem. They already have the correct brain power and may well have the required physical attractiveness. Quite possibly slimy as well.

I can empathise. A few years back I got off a train and went to collect my bike only to find slashed tyres, shredded saddle and scratched paintwork. Horrible feeling.

OK, this is going to get me in trouble, but when I'm jammed in the doorway of a train with my knees against someone's folder, the train pulls into the final station and I realise that the owner of the bike has been sitting in comfort while I've been bumping against his bike, I get annoyed. I think it's pretty selfish that I have had to deal with his bike on my journey and he hasn't. And I'm a folder owner myself - no jealousy involved.

Of course, I don't vandalise it and I'm not condoning this action. My personal feeling is that a bike is inconveniencing someone on the train - and if there are people standing, it is - then one of those people should be the bike owner. My train leg is short (~30 minutes if I catch the all-stations), so I only take a seat if there is room near the seat for the bike. TBH this is only partly for other commuters; I'd also hate to get off the train only to find my folder got off at an earlier stop!

The person who vandalised your bike was probably just a random thug, but it may have been someone having a bad morning who felt aggrieved by your possessions in the little room he had to stand.

Hang on, if the bike is stored in the correct bike storage area, and the owner got on the train before you, what exact grounds have you got for complaining?
