@jefmcg and I are planning a Belgium SuperPootle® over the late May bank holiday

First thoughts on route is...
Ferry Dover-Dunkirk
Stay somewhere between Dunkirk and Bruges
Stay Ghent
Possibly stay around Ypres
Possibly stay Lille
Eurostar Lille-London home

Any recommendations for good value hotels / B&Bs with a safe haven for bikes would be much appreciated

Cheers

The Glue that binds us together.
You have to go to Diksmuide to see the (Trenches, very moving) we did the ride last year but can't find the hotels we stayed at, we stayed in a Monastery in Ghent, that was nice but expensive. Hotel monasterium portakere.
This is where we stayed in Diksmuide. https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?oe=u...98&ei=0Jz6UtSyMIjT7AaK-YGQCg&ved=0CKwBEPwSMAo
Ghent you will love.

I stayed in hotel Malleberg while in Bruges, lovely place, good location and the staff were really helpful. I think they had a secure car park with bikes in it but double check in case I'm wrong...

Cheers. I am not sure we will stay in Bruges as it's too far to get to on day one from Dunkirk and then not far enough in day 2...lunch there I reckon (and cake/beer)

Hi Vickster Did you complete this route?

I am thinking about a tour next spring along the lines of - Bruges > Ypres > Ghent > Bruges.

Any advice/thoughts etc etc?

Tony

It would be a shame not to spend a night in Bruges (one of the loveliest places I've ever visited). Dunkirk to Bruges is around 70 miles, which is manageable in a day as it's mostly on canal paths.. Or you could take the (bike friendly) Coastal Tram from near De Panne to Oostende and cycle the excellent canal path into Bruges.
The ride from Bruges to Ghent is superb. Head north along the canal towards Sluis and turn right at the intersection of 2 canals just above Damme.

JackE You make a valid point Bruges is wonderful - Whatever plans we make we will def spend 2 days in Brugge.

This will be my first "Tour" so I intend to either plan to the N'th degree - or just go with the flow........
