2x4 is 2" x 4" timber. A good size for hitting things with.
Different to an 8x4, which is 8' x 4' and is the standard sheet material size.

My dad always used to call it 4 x 2, pronounced 4-by-2 or 4-be-2. (He was a carpenter/joiner.)

yep, I have always known it as 4be2

I think in the UK it tends to be 4x2 whereas in the US it is 2x4.
I personally prefer a 3x2 for swinging as it is an easier size to grip!

Why is everyone putting their post codes in? I just entered the town, or is that only any use if you are not in a city? Certainly if you are worried I might come and steal your bikes then where possible just put the place name.

I just put the first part of the postcode in - HX7 which is near enough.

I've actually seen people post GPS tracklogs which identify exactly where they live, and in their signatures they list their bikes - I always start my local routes from the same long-stay car park!
