adjustment on b&m dymotec

I have been toying with the idea of dynamo lighting and someone gave me a b&m dynamo to play with. Does anyone know what the small adjuster on the side of a b&m dymotec does?

I have tried to look on the net PDF instructions with no luck. I am guessing that it adjusts the resistance somehow though I can`t feel any change in the rotation as I change the setting.

Any ideas out there?
