I was going to order a powerline with wifi for my retired mum, to improve the broadband reception at the top of her tiered back garden in the summer house, although I was learning as I researched them.

Everything ground to a holt, when it turned out the electric supply to the summer house was on a separate loop to the house, so connecting the powerline next to the router in the house was not going to send a wired network feed to the summer house to the other powerline plug-in adapter!

I did check that before ordering by taking the current adapter up the garden and using it there.

AFAIK they use the earth wire as the conductor as for most* of the time it's doing nowt but it is there.

* ideally it is never needed but things can happen

There is no 'current' running it is an RF frequency 5 Ghz I seem to remember but I could be wrong so the signal exists in the wire 'earthed' or not

Having never given Amazon a penny , because of their employment regime , it's all meh to me .

If you are buying a lot from Amazon, then effectively yes, as the free postage will more than cover the subscription cost.
