Whilst we know it has been hot out there, it seems the rate of global warming has near enough doubled this last decade.
Even if it flattens off we are at 3C warming by 2050. Linear acceleration would mean 5C +++.

I found out that pilchards are grown-up sardines!

AI thinks, be it reluctantly, that it would be a 4.91C to 5.7C warming at 2050 via the last decades trend.
However it feels a recent fall in pollution has impacted on the last decade.
But coal, oil and then gas are the 3 main warming culprits. I think the next 5 years might tell us if the future is lost, the full reasons on the last 10 years being still up in the air.

I don't think the physical system will reach a "runaway" state*; but it's quite possible that humanity will keep pouring in the inputs to bring about the same result.

*I know there are some positive feedback issues - like melting the ice reducing reflectivity, that sort of thing. But I don't think they are the dominant factors.

That I never knew. I have to hope the Chinese SMR reactor is a major success this year, a fast rollout certainly needed.

I knew that pilchards are fully grown sardines, but I didn't know that overfishing is at the root of the current shortages. I suppose it's not surprising really if they've spent centuries netting them before they're fully grown.
