Do you mean Beara? I know it well and holidayed for a few occasions down there, staying at a bunglow near perhaps that very pier. A few years later, I cycled toured round there, from Cork on my way up to Limerick and back to Cork. Wonderful wild coasts.

Yes - that's it - the spelling was more Anglicised when we used to go there

The lace we used to stay was a cottage pretty much on Travara beach

lovely place and in those days the place was almost deserted except for the farmer from just up the fields and us

so us 3 boys could be allowed to wander all over (except for the road) and our parents just assumed we would arrive back when we got hungry
(boys - fresh air - food - that concept was a pretty reliable!!!)

Just looked that up, it's further round the coast. I was further south at a place that seems to be called Lower Reen, though I don't remember that name. I know it was there from the google map pics and because I remember walking up to the watchtower at Blackball head. When cycle touring, I stayed at Allihies. Gotta be near 20 years ago.

On misreadings, I frequently used to read 'uniformed' as 'uninformed' and wondered why the police would send such officers to a scene.

It's to guarantee open-mindedness. Informed officers may harbour biases.
