I've seen a book swap one in a nearby village, and a defib one somewhere. Ours is next to a bus stop and litter bin, and very little litter or smell of wee if you open the door.
I suspect there might have to be a survey or something around the village, but that's a good idea.@Spinney I'm not sure about how to get about it, but why not turn the box into a first mechanic aid for cyclists? That is of course if it's location is suitable.

There's one of each at Waitrose in Chipping Sodbury - under cover as well! Never seen anyone use it, though.We have the ones one the right in various locations around Bristol. There are also boxes with repair kits at various locations including libraries BUT they only seem to be inside the Bristol City Boundary. The locations of the Emergency Repair Boxes:

Noooo!Decommissioned phone boxes are a bloody eyesore. Melt them down for scrap.
