I think Tiermat might have coined a term that will enter usage.

I have 8 bikes at the moment. Mind you 2 of them are Kickbikes and so I insisted on no pedals.

I have never bought a bike anywhere that did not come with some sort of pedals. If you buy such a bike when you wanted pedals then you need to contact the seller and tell them.

But to be honest I think we all discussing something that doesnt happen.

So dont be surprised if it turns up without pedals. At least they tell you.

Stops a lot of waste as well I guess. If I had spent a few grand on a bike I wouldnt want it plastered with shoot reflectors, dork discs and a effin bell, that said if I had spend £80 on a bike I wouldnt either.

my (and, i suspect, leodis') ribble r872 was effectively a purchase of a frameset, wheelset and groupset, with pedals an add-on at extra cost. good of ribble to do all the build that required campag-specific tools...

Funny that people are quite happy to buy plastic bikes but nevertheless object to plastic reflectors being fitted to it!

I suspect pert of it is due to the requirement to supply bikes with reflectors on the pedals. We tend not to want those. Thus the bikes are supplied without pedals. Only a theory. No evidence.

No - the main reason is that most people buying an expensive bike will have their prefered pedal/shoe combination. SPD, SPD/SL, LOOK, SPEEDPLAY, Mavic etc etc - what is the point of fitting cheap plastic pedals that are immediately thrown in the bin? (and spoil the look of the bike). BTW the bikes i have bought online - from the UK and Germany have come without reflectors and other junk, but have been delivered with the pedals in the box that I have ordered with the bike (with discount). So what is the problem? Bike shops sell pedals as well as bikes, buy a pair that suit you when you buy the bike - and maybe get a discount on them too!

Has anyone been nicked for not having reflectors on pedals or wheels? Old bill round here dont seem to care about cars with no lights or just sides so bikes wont register unless u ride in the town ctr where cycling is banned..

I use spd's on every bike But at night I do something really odd I use lights!!! Yesi know weird...
pitty the local yoof dont understand that one...but they do wear black clothes so its ok I spose..

on the new bike poundshop thing ive only had this with bikes from the lbs ..all the others had a bag of tat and no pedals in the big box, think its all down to liability and blame if shop sells with this tat missing..

No legal requirment for reflectors on wheels. The CTC website 'Regulations' is good for legal information on Lighting, Construction and use, and Safety regulations.
