I got a merino base layer from Aldi in the last cycle event. It's just like a long sleeve t shirt shape.

I'd like it change the neck line to a lower scoop neck.

I've hot a sewing machine, but only use it for hemming curtains etc.

Is this job easy peasy or super hard? Should I try it and risk ruining the top, or take it to the seamstress down the road who will charge me squillions?

How do you sew merino with a machine? Isn't it too "loose" to take stitches?

I'd hand sew it, personally.
And if it is a bit stretchy, you need to use a stitch that can stretch (this applies to machining as well).
Probably best to google for some advice.

Most tops will have the top bound with a strip of the same material, or the top will have been knitted specially to make the neckline. You might be able to use some bias binding to do this.

The hem at the neck at present looks like an overlock type stitch to me.
