Is it safe to cash collect an item (a cycle ofcourse) won through an ebay bidding?
Ebay asking me to 'pay now' through paypal and I agreed with seller for cash on collection.
Does the seller have to update in ebay after I cash/colleted and what if he doesn't?
Will there be any risk involved in this process as a buyer (me)?

These kinda questions must have been asked several times in the net, but appreciate your
valuable inputs.

kind regards,
a cyclist

Once you pay,the seller will go to his account and set a flag against that item to say payment received. You do the same saying payment sent. After that feedback both ways. Job done

There's more risk to the seller, as there will be no proof you ever received the bike. He might take a photo, but I don't think Paypal accept that as evidence.

Just don't hand over your money until you're completely happy.

Just being cynical: Why does he want cash on collection? I assume you are going to his house and not meeting in a Maccy D car park and taking delivery out of a van.

I had no idea you could do that ,, i have done cash loads of time and just ignor the "Pay Now" , you can leave feedback at any time , saying that i now never leave feedback until the other party has left it for me, this is due to the fact that i always left it and never got it back , out of 150+ transactions i am still only on 87 feedbacks due to others not leaving it , oh my god i am on a right old rant now

And another thing ......................

cash on collection is best in my mind , because at least when you get to bike if not as described you can just say no and you have not got to worry re paypal refund etc etc

The risk is borne by the vendor. The buyer can claim that the goods were never received - it's happened before and there's no cover offered from PayPal under such circumstances. They, PayPal that is, stand firm on this one and it had been covered on consumer programs.

If you pay cash on collection you have no buyer protection via Paypal, but then you get to thoroughly check over the bike before paying for it. If it is not as described walk away, the worst that can happen is negative feedback but thats better than parting with a handful of money!
When I've sold bikes on Ebay I ask for cash on collection, that way I know that the buyer has seen and is happy with the bike. Also you know that the person paying is getting the bike.
