That weight is probably a bit high, but not far off maybe 25kg. Unless you're lifting the bike completely off the ground(both wheels together) the weight will be greatly reduced hanging from a hook for instance

To hang a bike in the storage cubicle in UK mainline trains does demand lifting the bike completely off the floor. It's a really awkward space, almost impossible to use when there is another bike in it. See the photo in my first post.

Where will you keep it? If it is an unheated out building then you really need one which you can easilly remove the battery
Really low temperatures at night will affect the battery meaning it maybe sometime well into the following day before you get a correct inducation of the battery level.

That’s temporary though. As long as you don’t charge it under 0C it‘s not much of an issue.

The lighter ebikes tend not to have removable batteries because those batteries need extra casing material and connectors. The down tubes have to be thicker walled and wider (hence heavier) for the frame to be rigid enough with the big hole in them for the battery.

Given most my ebike routes are immediately a vertical U shape having a reading of none to little battery on a cold morning is not something I want to see

Have a look at decathlon e road bikes - thesei are pretty similar - but cheaper than the offerings from Ribble.

At 14kg my decathlon is quite weighty - but you would have to pay a lot more to get something much lighter. It comes with the Mahle X35 motor - which is aging but proven tech.

Avoid any unknown brands as others have said.

It might read a few % low in the cold but if it's reading little to none when there's actually a fair bit in it, then there's something wrong with the battery or the controller.

Shall we just stick to calling it a bike until an electric motor is attached?

Still a bike then! ;)

I like "push bike".

Oh, me too. It reminds me of that long-ago hit The Pushbike Song by The Mixtures. I was four when that came out...

Ridin' along on my pushbike, honey.
When I noticed you.
Ridin' downtown in a hurry, honey,
Down South Avenue.

You looked so pretty as you were ridin' along.
You looked so pretty as you were singing this song.

Well, I put on the speed,
And I tried catching up,
But you were pedalling harder too.
Ridin' along like a hurricane, honey,
Spinning out of view.

Seems like a girl was faster than a boy. Yay!

Cube says it's 27.9kg: https://www.cube.eu/uk-en/cube-supreme-hybrid-deluxe-one-600-indigoblue-n-switch/114400

Shrk says it's 28.5kg: https://www.sharkebikes.com/products/mako

Gazelle says 27kg, without the battery: https://www.gazellebikes.com/en-gb/ebikes/grenoble-c5-hmb

Are they making their bikes from wrought iron with concrete bearings because I don't understand how my 2021 bike can be so much lighter.

I'm not in any hurry to get rid of my excellent - if heavy at 19kg - pushbike which is a belt drive Gazelle Esprit. I think I'll wait awhile before making a leap onto the saddle of an e-bike, as I have insufficient space for two bikes.

You need a new house then. Only one bike, that does not compute ! ^_^

I was going to ask, what is the bike made of weighing 19kg, then looked it up, ah a Dutch bike. I'll be brutally honest, dutch bikes aren't the nicest things to ride and are very heavy. Plus handling is 'interesting at best. I'd personally recommend looking at a modern ladies hybrid. My wife has an older Pinnacle Stratus 3, like attached. It handles well, is quick and light.

I had the delight of servicing a friends new Pashley, my word it was like a steam roller.
