well if you take the definition of

'fantasy'
n., pl. -sies. The creative imagination; unrestrained fancy.

I still think the word fantasy is apt when it applies to Facebook and Twitter, same with their predecessors 'Friendsreunited'. Mostly full of people partaking in oneupmanship against their old friends (I'm a rocket scientist, I'm rich yadda yadda).

So on reflection, fantacist, fantasy - whatever, it describes well the person who's trying to 'be' the OP and it also describes the people on Facebook who claim to be partaking in all kinds of extravagant activities.

I agree, but thats more down to the personality of the user than the site. Facebook is a success because of how 'real' it is (it's so valuable because the information harvested has allowed targetted marketing on a totally new level).

Anyone lying about what they do on facebook would IMO be quickly caught out, unless they had absolutely no facebook friends that 'know' them on a day to day basis.

I do however not see the point in having 800 friends... I recently culled around 100 from my list as I didnt class them as 'friends' and didnt really have much to do with them. Everyone on my friends list I have met personally and have interacted with in the 'real' world.

WTF are you on about? Have you decided to take umbridge at my description of a lot of facebook users as fantacists?

I couldn't care less what you think, and I'd be even more surprised if you cared about what I think!

Is Umbridge the place where they film The Archers?

Nope, not at all - really. They're just letters on a screen, which is why I don't put an awful lot of store in Facebook and Twitter.

As for the person who's decided to masquerade as the OP, that really is quite sad, isn't it? His life is so empty he has to pretend to be someone else.

Look, peasents, your both being as stupid as each other on this.
Your on an internet forum. Is this not the same as facebook?
Look at the Tea thread. They are all living in a fantasy land. Asking each other if they want tea and cake in fantasy tea land. That is sad.
Facebook, however, is connecting people. You, dodgy, just dont see it as this. You have probably never been onto facebook, or if you have, thought it was pointless.
I think the Tea thread is pointless, but i dont go about offending the people in it, besides calling them sad for acting out crap.
Facebook you organise things on. In 6th form, someone will organise something and put a post on so it flags up on everyones facebook so we all know. Which is handy.
Your both hypocrits and website killing saddists.
Get over it, your in some fantasy cafe, talking to people, most of which you havent met. What would you class that as you sad sad sad dodgy

This is not the same as Facebook, on here you share tips, find riding buddies, discuss bike problems. Contrast that with Facebook and it's "Dodgy is going to the beach" or "Dodgy had a lovely time at the bbq today" etc.

Do you?
What about commuting? Whats in there?
How about in this cafe here? Your talking about facebook, thats not in your list.
What about the Tea? thread, and the music threads on here? Or Longers asking what everyone is doing at the weekend?
This doesnt seem to meet your criteria of postings, and how facebook is different.
There also the recent thread of Snapper getting a new dog. Is that not any simularity to facebook?
Im not dissing any threads by the way.
Dodgy, you are infact, wrong.
