Hi guy's following my previous thread I am now after purchasing a bike; looking at the guides I look to be after a hybrid, I plan on doing most of my rides on disused railway lines converted to walking/cycling routes, I assume a hybrid would be suitable for this type of surface?

Secondly I have NO IDEA what on earth I am looking for, scouring the internet etc the bikes look much of a muchness and literally have no defining features. Being a student I am naturally quite skint, I can stretch to around £250ish, in this price range I assume Ill be looking for something second hand off ebay and the like? So I was wondering if you guy's would be so kind to point me out some decent bikes, I literally have no idea what I'm looking for (although I do like bikes that are white, ha).

Finally I have heard people say never buy team kits as you'll look like a bit of a ******! Is this correct? I really like the look of some of the team gear on eBay, and from what I can see its a bit cheaper than some of the generic gear being sold in the LBS', so what do you think?

Thanks a lot for your help, it is really appreciated!

On the team gear thing... Yeah you'll look a bit silly to the passer by but don't be afraid to show your colours. After all, people wear football shirts all the time! I would just avoid champion/race leader jerseys like a certain yellow one myself.

Wear what the hell you want and what you feel comfortable in. I have no issues wearing team kit or the leader /championship / race winning tour jerseys if I like them.

I have a team bike, team water bottles, team helmet, team kit, and team water bottles which can be seen in the following post.

I have a carrera crossfire 1 which i am happy with, halfords build and setup is hit and miss tho. Bike has front suspension if you think you need that for bumpy trails. If not maybe the carrera subway. Crossfire is £250.

I'd go with the Carreras they are pretty solid bikes we have one and it rides great! I wouldn't trust halfords with building it though our LBS quite often has bikes taken into them built by them and the forks are on back to front!!!

Get cheaper generic clothing rather than fake team stuff on eBay and put more towards the bike. £200 will get you a carrera from Halfords as above during one of their constant 'sales'

If you have no idea what you are looking for, I'd steer clear of eBay unless you can get help or you could well end up with something nicked

Tenn direct or cycle-clothing.co.uk worth a look

I paid £150 at a local LBS for my bike 5 years ago and its still going strong, I get most all of my cycling kit from Ebay/Aldi
