Advice on bike needed

I disagree that new wheels just have a placebo effect! I bought two pairs of very light Superstar Components wheels and gave a set to Gti Junior and another set to my regular buddy, an experienced cyclist, to try blind on his Tarmac fitted with the same tyres he uses at the same pressure. He was blown away by them and couldn't believe lighter, stiffer wheels could make so much difference. He bought them straight off me and is still loving them.

I cannot tell the difference between riding on my mavic ksyrium equipe's or my cheapo Shimano rs11's.

Not only that but modern carbon bikes look beautiful and are flattering to ride so if the OP fancies upgrading to a carbon bike, why advise the poor chap to stick with what he's got?

I wrote he should stick with what he has if he is happy with it, what's wrong with that?

Rubbish again(although personal opinion), my steel road bike made by Shand is far more beautiful than my carbon road bike made by Specialized(it's still a beautiful bike though).

As vickster says, Vittoria Rubinos are a very popular all round tyre for road use and they have many fans on this forum. There are one or two different types, I have the pro tech version on one of my bikes. I think they give the best balance between grip, speed, comfort, durability and price. Current thinking is that 25mm allows you to run lower pressures than 23mm giving greater comfort without sacrificing speed, but it's one of those issues that seems to attract a lot of lively debate and I personally doubt if the difference is great enough to be noticed by riders at the level of you or me.

You may see many people recommending Continental Gatorskins for their superior puncture protection. I think they are awful.tyres but some folk seem to rate 'em.

God knows why, I hate them. Poor grip and a harsh ride.

Pro Race 4s are miles better.
