If grievance procedure doesnt result in changes, tribunal is the option but Citizens advice won't take up a workplace case if there is a union that the employee is a member of, same for legal aid. This I can confirm from bitter experience, so mrs bs sake, I hope the union are a good bunch. Also worth noting that if you want to put in a tribunal however bearing in mind it's very early days there is a three month deadline from the last issue to take it to an employment tribunal. I hope it doesn't come to this, take up a collective grievance, that has to be done before any tribunal can be considered anyhow. Good luck, there's things aren't easy. Let us know how it's going beanz

Guys - you've all been so helpful, thank you. Going to approach it from every positive angle we can. I will post an update when the dust starts to settle.

A number of the workforce seem to have gone home and drowned their sorrows yesterday. The unopened bottle of Cava that had been lurking in the fridge for 2 weeks did not survive the evening in the Beanz household...

Sorry if my post was a bit harsh.
Mrs OTH was also hit very hard with her relocation. We had sorted things out really well so she could take the kids to school on her way to and from work and she had built up lots of good work relationships over many years.
She went through quite a bereavement that she is still not over so keep the Cava in stock!
She has been spending the break sorting out and updating her CV and has sorted out what she is going to do next.

Sometimes change works out to be for the best and things that knock you back ultimately do you a favour.

No worries - I didn't see your post as harsh, just frank and honest, both of which I appreciate.

Going to help her broach the CV thing at the weekend. Good luck for MrsOTH's situation reaching a happy result too.

Good luck to both mrs b and mrs oth. If the job and workplace aren't worth it after a good assessment then no harm in chucking out the cv for new prospects. Sorry to hear such difficult starts to the year.

Err - Can I make a simple suggestion - coming from someone who makes a living unpicking thse type of events.

1. What does you wife want? (i.e. is she happy in another Dept but the hours don't suit)
2. Is what she wants realistic ?

If so why not propose this to the Manager?
Managers love having their problems solved for them.

You'd be amazed how often this simple approach works (but tell everyone or my hourly rate will come down).

((From a technical perspective you want the Company to treat this as a redundancy happy to go through the ins and outs)

I'd take the job 25 miles away for now and start looking for new job right away.

My personal experience with kicking up a fuss with Unions, labour 'rights', fairness is that it all comes to nowt and your card is marked as a troublemaker

In the meantime see if the supermarket is prepared to make a contribution to the aditional travel cost (always worth a punt, the worst that can say is no)

Perhaps we should all roll over on our backs and wave our arms and legs in the air?
