Hi everyone

I am using an old road bike (over 10 years) to commute my back rim (Shimano R-500) has died and I am looking for a cheep reliable replacement. The options I have found are a 32 hole mavic open sport on Tiagra hub a Mavic Aksium or a Shimano rs-11. I weigh about 85 kilo and do some times ride with some shopping etc. I am mainly looking for reliability but would like not to feel down graded from the old r500.

What do you think?

Thanks

The R500's are still available in R501 guise..(it states they are actually marked R500 ).you can get a set of two for £56 plus a few quid delivery from Rose https://www.rosebikes.com/article/shimano-wh-r501--28700-c-road-wheel-set/aid:100100

However I think the 32 spoke mavic open sport would be a stronger wheel than the R500/01..I have a 36 spoke Open Pro with Tiagra hub on my tourer and its been very reliable.

(ps Im also the same weight as you and have stock R500's on one of my road bikes- no issues)

Thanks for the advise I think I will go for this one http://www.tredz.co.uk/.M-Part-Shimano-Tiagra-Hub-on-Mavic-Open-Sport-Rim-Complete-Wheel_35633.htm . I hope it will take the abuse of a heavy rider and London roads better than the light weight aerodynamic options

Received the wheel today it seems nice, although as was written in some reviews not stress relived so it went out of true just from the strain of transferring the cassette etc. tension on the drive side as tested using guitar tuning app is uniform(I had a badly built wheel on a different bike that drove me mad).
It feels like the cassette a 9 speed has some freedom do I need a spacer or am I simply not using enough force on the lock ring?
P.S. found a 5 pound coupon for tredz so it came to 51 it is the same price for the rs010 if any one is looking
