My Scott is leaving me for another man in kent. Its my fault I have started a new relationship with a shiny new Cannondale :-)

I need to pack it as safely as possible into the bike box I scrounged from the Evans in Cardiff.

I have put pipe lagging around the tubes and plan to wrap other bits in old towels and other rags. No where local seems to have bubble wrap.

Any tips please?

Pad the box with as much newspaper as you can cram in round the bike.

Rear mech removed and wrapped up and tucked into frame.

dropout protector scrounged and fitted into front fork

Wondering how best to deal with the bars now. Someone said to flip the stem ,any reason for that?

Either I have used to much packaging or the box is too small. Bike goes in great but cant get front wheel in as well. May have to go back and try and get a bigger box.

You usually have to remove the front wheel and handlebars and swivel the forks back to front to reduce the overall length

+1 for comments about removing the rear mech.

Generally I also remove the rear QR and scrounge some axle caps like this http://bikeflights.com/images/support/HTP_FrontWheel2.png from a bike shop (often inside the cardboard box outside the shop

Remove seat post with saddle probably

Pedals off

Personally I remove the chain but I always have quick links on

Next step was to remove bars and turn stem around. Its all packed in the box now and padded with extra cardboard polystyrene old towels sheets etc.Probably better than the manufacturers do.
