Hi all,

I've recently discovered the stock wheels on my specialized Allez are, to quote the bike mechanic who serviced it, are 'bloody knackard'. So with that in mind I was hoping for some advice on an upgrade.

I have a budget up to 200 quid, not big money for wheels I know but it's reflective of the amount of cycling I do.

Obviously the best performance for the money is what I'm after but something reliable that will do for some casual racing but are mainly built to last. I know something on the wish list might have to give but hoping there's something out there that'll do the job.

Also just to check, the bike wheels come in a standard size? I'd hate to get a set and look like I'm riding a clown bike.

Thanks all
Drew

May need to re-think your budget. If the wheels are well and truly gone, what is the state of your cassette? If going for a new one, then it would be prudent to go for a new chain as well. Then will you need any specialist tools to do the work?

But going back to the mechanic's diagnosis, in what way are they gone? Wheels can be trued and bearings replaced. Probably time to fit a new cassette and chain. Maybe go to another bike shop and get a second opinion and a quote for what needs to be done.

Good luck
Keith
