Amsterdam, down the Rhine to Waldshut, up the Wutach valley to the source of the Danube at Donaueschingen and then down to the Black Sea. You can do all that with four bikeline guidebooks and one map for the Wutach bit.

Although I think that in three weeks it would be realistic to aim for getting as far as Vienna.

I'd second getting the "Bike Line" books - mostly in german, however the Danube bit is availble in English, but buy them in any language it the maps you need,

Maps are superb in any language

I am using John Powels Cycling the Rhine Route for a lot of the route to Basel witha few detours and a short cut or two.

Then Basel to Zurich onto Como, (Verona & Venice optional depending on how the trip is running for time) Florence and onto Rome. I have 23 days route works out to about 1200 to 1300 miles.

Graham I also will be on my LHT as well ;) hope to see you on the Road..
