Telling them the bike cost £500 when it cost £600 to get cover is surely not 100% honest, which is what you said to do. Regardless of what it costs now.

I said that I had to provide a receipt, it may not be necessary, however, I was asked to get a receipt from where I purchased the bike as it was local and I could longer find the receipt. If the bike was recently purchased, then that is not an unreasonable request. I had replaced the bike prior to making a claim which was fine, although the insurers said that they would normally replace the bike themselves.

A piece of jewellery from 20 years ago is different.

When I added my bikes to my home insurance policy they weren't interested specifically with bikes valued at under £500. These seem to be covered regardless within the policy. Those above required a frame or serial number along with make and model.

They didn't ask how much I paid for them only their current value.

So to the OP:- you may still be covered if your insurance company works the same way as mine, assuming of course the current value is below the £500 threshold.
