I often ride the same bike to work that I race on with 50mm carbon rims. No more wind issues than on any other ride, they are the new more rounded fatter profile style wheels that are supposed to limit cross wind problems. My commute is predominantly rural on some pretty fast roads so my average speed is always 20 mph plus and sometimes up to 25 mph average. Riding deep sections doesn't seem to increase my times much. For me the only question is do I want to use a set of wheels that cost more than a perfectly adequate fit for purpose alternative?
