Recently put a new cassette on and whilst it was like for like something wasn't right. I talk for a living and I'm useless with my hands (in a DIY sense only!) so two mates had a look and despite being very knowledgable and helpful it still wasn't right. It took a trip to my LBS to sort it.

I do like the idea of supporting my lbs anyway as one day I might really need him and he will have shut down if we all do it ourselves.

Speaking of this, just took it for a ride and it's still jumping gears. Green machine in blackrod set it up yesterday and it goes up the gears great, one by one, but when I change down (so its on the big ring at the front and going from the smallest cog to the biggest it jumps three or four cogs at a time. I'm sure it didn't do it before I had the new cassette put on and Jonathan in green machine said he rode it and it was ok (which I'm doubting as it isn't ok) so suggestions?

As no one is weighing in with solutions I guess I'll have to live with it?
Back to the lbs.
In the longer term, as you claim to be "useless with your hands", I would suggest dumping the derailleur gears and consideration of a Rohloff Speedhub. I had my touring bike converted to Rohloff and would never consider going back to a derailleur system after 10K without any adjustment or replacement of components, just the annual oil change.

It doesn't sound cassette-related to me.

Road bike? Campagnolo Ergo or Shimano STI?

Sounds like it might be a twanged part inside the lever.

It shouldn't flick down the cogs more than one at a time. If it does, I think it's the lever (mechanical problem therein) or a very weird issue with the adjustment of the derailleur.

Most likely the lever, but I am not a mechanic.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
+1 back to the LBS. Otherwise the first thing I would do is refit the original cassette and see if it still happens - this should sort out whether it relates to the new cassette.

I may have fixed it!

Asking my wife to hold the back of the bike up I checked that it still jumps whilst shifting down gear (small cogs to big) and it did. So after googling it I found one site which mentioned cogs jumping and recommended loosening the tensioner, a bit of trial and error and it seems to have worked although only holding it up, haven't ridden it yet.

Now I can't believe that my two knowledgable friends and the LBS didn't do this so I'm wondering if the tensioner is shifting when actually riding it. I'll mark the tension adjuster to see if it moves and report back.

To answer the questions, road bike Allez Elite, 9 spd 2010 Tiagra with Tiagra Cassette and yeah, I've thought about putting the original cassette on to see if it's that. Hope not!

Di2 (or Ui2) is the answer I reckon! Gotta be a good reason for saving up! By the time I can afford it it might be a reasonable price!

I've been waiting for those to come back into stock, I'm off Thursday so I'll be first in the queue! Is it me or does the wall mounted rack look like a clothes dryer?

Even as an engineer from an engineering family, where taking things apart to see why they were working was normal behaviour, I found Richard's Bicycle Book invaluable when I started - mine is the 1976 edition- not sure how good the current version is.
