Ain't Halfords great.

I've been bike shopping this weekend and all in all I'm disappointed. I went into edinburgh cycles of Aberdeen, turns out all their stock is for show?? I have to wait for the bike I want to come in.

I called ahead to alpine bikes and explained this strange goings on, they said, "ah half an hour set up and check you'll be on your way" great thinks I. Told them the size I need as well. So after a 1.5 mile walk!! Nothing in my size in any road bike but.... They can order it in .

I've allways dealt with Edinburgh cycles (they use to be cycling world) I got my bike same day. Is this the norm?

Then today I was in... Halfords. Looked at a carrera vanquish at £599, said he'd do it for £540. Trouble is it's a 56cm frame I am 5ft 5 and a half with a 29 inch leg. I said the frame is too big, he said it's just guide lines and dropped the price to tempt me. Eh no, I said. So Halfords took the worst shop award.

How can the lbs survive if the carry on like this? I can get a nice specialized allez for £450 in my size at Evans without wasting my time with useless shops, delivered free quicker than waiting for local stores to order in.

I really want a shiny new road bike but it's hard to get one. If I was a non cyclist I'd probably say forget about it!

Patience dear boy patience....

You can't expect any LBS to stock a full range of bikes, the cash flow for the business would be screwed and they'd fail.

Choose the bike you really want and wait for it, I had to wait 10 weeks for my Orbea because they actually built it from scratch for me, so a few days should be worth it.

If you want something badly enough, you'll wait.

You say that you could get one at Evans then wait a few days for them to deliver it, but wouldn't wait a couple of days for a bike shop to get one in and then set it up to fit you when you collected it from the store? Same thing surely, but with fitting thrown in.

I guess it's the distance. I'd be waiting till next weekend for the local allez. If I ordered from Evans it'd be with me Tuesday or Wednesday and £100 cheaper. Also the same shop use to stock all sizes, guess the economy ruined that.
