Air in tyres

Hi. Purchased a carerra e road bike crossover. For the love of money I can not put air in the tyres. Pump I have is a Halfords advanced pump with gauge but how do you put air in?... have to squat anything ?. Help thank you

Basic guide, but if your pump head has only one hole, you might have to disassemble/reassemble it to switch valve type:

It looks like your pump may be https://www.halfords.com/cycling/bi.../halfords-advanced-road-hand-pump-228006.html which says it has one hole that autoadjusts. I've sometimes found that such heads need a couple of pumps before they detect and adjust.

Your pump should be able to fit Schrader and presta valves, the presta will need the little nut unscrewing to accept air.
Could be you need to switch types as above.

This may sound silly, but if you have presta valves, are you undoing the little locknut on top of the valve stem? This releases the valve itself.

Also, have you changed the innards of the pump to the correct bits for Presta. If you unscrew the nossell, the bit in the middle will come out and you can turn it around for the other fitting.

Also note once you have undone the little locknut a bit you need to 'tap' the top of it with a finger to unstick the valve from it's rubber seat or it won't allow air in.

Yes... all of the above & if it is a Presta Valve don't diss it, otherwise you could be shot!

True, most track pumps have a universal head, the OP hasn't got a track pump, but one of these.

Which is the one I linked, which claims to auto-adjust without you taking it to bits — is the description on the Halfords page wrong, then?

Having established the OP's pump auto adjusts for value type, I strongly suspect its a case of not undoing the presta locknut before attempting to inflate, a not uncommon mistake for people encountering them for the for the firs time.
