Hey there, I am after a new air mattress. During my last tour I ended up using two each night as both ended up going down in the middle of the night. One was a cheap blow up mattress which I got to replace an expensive, thin self inflating type. Weight and size are not too much of an issue, just as long as it stays up. Ideas? Experience with yours?

My kids got a good self inflating one for DofE, both thought it was great, no deflation issues and it feels quite light and compact to me. Will report back on what brand it is.

I have a proper thermarest which I've had a long time. It has had a few punctures, but easy enough to fix, even on holiday I guess.
The Mrs has a lookey-likey one, which is a bit heavier and perhaps tougher. Now that the patents have run out I think I'd buy a looky-likey one if needing to replace - maybe Decathlon or go-outdoors house brands or whatever.

You will eventually get punctures, whether pin-pricks from thorns, or a proper cut - not a big deal, albeit one or more nights less than comfortable
