What if the problem is that it won't actually go off when you need it to!

That's the problem on my van. It was built without any airbags. AFAIK retro fitting is not possible. Strangely enough my insurance premium seems unaffected by absence of airbags. But at least I have no airbag warning lights either.

I'm afraid you are wrong there, airbag light is an MOT failure since March or April this year
Thanks for that. I was only going by what my MOT chap/mechanic told us. You live and learn

The light can come on if it has been tampered with or the connections are loose or corroded.

Mine came on when I took the seat out. The garage reset the computer for me.

It doesn't make economic sense for manufacturers to go to the expense of designing unnecessary warning systems, so I would always investigate warning lights which stick on.
I can't agree. It makes sense for the industry to complicate things to the extent that only the industry can fix them. The more complicated things become the greater the possibility of something failing.
Cynical, me?

I have changed my mind - airbag warning lights are completely redundant because we have cheap, reliable and effective systems built into us - foreheads! If your head hits a steering wheel or dashboard during a collision, you can be pretty sure that the airbag did not deploy properly ...

I had that on a Ford Focus and it was just a duff sensor that needed replacing

Thats why I always wear a helmet when driving as I did hit the windscreen in a head on, the airbag did deploy properly

You can only resolve the issue by connecting the car to a diagnostic system, that will come back with a fault code pinpointing where the fault is in the airbag system

My airbag light couldn't be re set by the normal diagnostics route and I had to call a specialist "airbag man" what else would he be called ! And it is an MOT failure
According to the airbag man....
My VW has a tyre pressure sensor light on all the time... I check air pressures every week [or so :headshake:] incl spare and tyres' pressure never wavers.... these sensors are a complete waste of time.... a bit like overhead gantry signs on motorways....
