Well, since it's been crappy weather with lots of drivetrain-wrecking salty gunk on the roads I've been pootling about on the Saracen Pylon that I picked up for next to nothing. Nexus hub gear is a little clunky and for Sheffield, it's a little high-geared for its weight, but so long as I take the longer route to work to avoid the hill in the middle it's OK (must get around to buying a smaller ring) - low maintenance and the coaster brake is great when cold fingers prefer to be wrapped under the bars and not pulling on brake levers

Anyways...

I had a rescue dog to take up to foster home in Durham yesterday, and also friends were going for early evening Easter Sunday beers which I was looking forward to...except the dog was delayed - a 1pm set off ended up being a 4:30pm set off, and people were talking of going to the pub at 6. Luckily traffic was light and I had an uninterrupted run, destination was just off the motorway, and got back to Sheffield for 8

I considered driving to the pub but not wanting to leave sat nav & stuff in pub car park overnight, and not wanting to waste time emptying car, I dumped the car at home, threw a pouch of food down for the cats, picked up the bike and got to the pub with plenty of time to enjoy enough bears to be not plastered but a little lubricated.

There's a handy cycle path nearly all the way, I don't use it going TO the pub but it's good for coming back slowly and carefully...all was well...

...until I got outside my house, I hopped up the kerb to go down the side passage and I had obviously had enough to slighly muddle signals from my brain to my limbs. The signal to pull up on the bars, also sent a faulty signal to pull back on the pedals with equal vigour. So of course bike comes to sudden stop, front wheel lands half on and half off the kerb and I am in a heap, with a small graze but only my pride hurt - or so I thought until I wake up.

Now I am R.I.C.E'ing it instead of having a long walk in the peaks and I've gone and given myself a right old pull in my left quads. Oh and a platform pedal dent in the side of my knee.

I'm hoping it's only a grade 1 stretch and it will sort itself out soon - I'm supposed to be doing a sponsored 25 mile walk up and around Win Hill, Jacobs Ladder & Mam Tor in 4 weeks

But the main thing of course is that the bike is built like a modern version of the old Raleigh Bombers so apart from a torn grip, is unscathed.

Coaster brakes are no good on pub bikes!

Ouch. Hope you make a speedy recovery. I will avoid coaster brakes and Guinness
