My mum's got an Alexa. She tells it to play music and... it plays music.

I use it as an alarm clock, and a radio/streaming into my hifi.

If I get one, it'll be to sync with my alarm system. 'Alexa: fire poison darts at intruder'

Depends if you liked being spied on. They use the information gained from listening to you and your questions to bombard you with targeted ads, in a similar way that mobile phones do. My daughter discovered her ex had hacked into hers and was talking to the kids when her back was turned, that was after he'd been banned from all contact for being a naughty boy. Personally don't like anything that listens or watches me. I cover the camera on my laptop and pc for privacy.

At least with a phone you can spend time removing permissions from the apps known to 'spy', but even then, everything one types into a search is probably being used to target adverts to us. On my work PC, Bing is the default browser and judging by the ads on its homepage, it seems to know everything about me.
