Took a trip into the beginners forum, and there is alot of "roadies are so arrogant and never say hi" etc etc etc ..... and there always has been this steryotype.

I would call myself a roadie, as I don't even currently own a mountainbike. I say hi to more or less every person on a bike, even those out jogging etc, and when I am with my club, most people ALLWAYS say hi to other cyclists ...... and most say hi back..apart from a few different "types" of riders.

Casual riders....people who are out for a jolly usually just blank me completely despite my best efforts.

Commuters ..... alot of the time, you give your cheery wave and they ignore you completely with a "things to do, places to be" attitude.

Sorry but I find this steryotype that roadies are arrogant to be a complete myth....and dont understand where it comes from. I don't feel any sort of allegience to roadies....but still fail to see this myth.

I agree, it's balls.

Some people will say hello some won't, what they're riding is irrelevant.

I was doodling along on my subway up the dualcarrage way the other day ( just started riding ) and a road bike came up the other side and gave me a cheery wave. I was well chuffed to be acknowledged and it felt good to be one of the team as it were

I never have any real problems whether im on my MTB or roadie, the vast majority say hello or gave an acknowlegement.
I suspect the ones that dont are like that anyway, whether on a bike or not.

Of course, I'm not disputing that. Only times I won't acknowledge is when I'm gripping on for dear life during a hard interval or a sprint interval etc..... But I always say hello in some form or another, as I am sure many others do

Which is common sense?

Surely people can tell the difference between someone on a nice ride out, and someone breathing through their @rse going for a PB / club record?
