Afternoon all
I love my road cycling but only do it as a bit of fun with friends on the weekend and as many evenings as I can (work permitting!) be so cover a fair few miles but it's not racing or time trials.

Recently sold my Orbea as it was a bit dated and was only a 7 speed which for me and hills around Dartmoor weren't the best match!

I've always like specialized stuff so not really given any other brands much of a chance but have seen a few lately but my knowledge is limited so was after your opinions. I'm either looking at around £700 for new or about £400 second hand but mainly between the two models stated in the title. So information or experience is greatly appreciated

And made you smile more on test ride

You really need to try them out. They are common bikes on shops so it should be easy. Especially if you have an Evans close by

Think the Allez fits best, both would be a 56cm frame but think I'm more bias when it comes to specialized anyway. Doesn't mean it's the better of the two bikes though

I can account for the specialized.

I had the Allez C2 sport, with the carbon front forks, and I really like it. Nice swift ride, and the forks soak up some of the bumps on the appalling roads in Wolverhampton. Last time I looked, it was only about £480.00 on Evans.

IMO, when you're into £500+ territory it's hard to buy a bad bike. The Allez, CAAD8, Synapse, Giant Defy, Cube Peleton etc etc are all good bikes, buy the one that fits you best and puts the biggest smile on your face. I've got a CAAD8 and after nearly 6,000 miles I'm still smitten with it.

Tony.

Appreciate it. The CAAD8 is a serious contender. Going to try a couple out today so will see
