Hi All,

i am in the market for a sturdy, reliabel cyclocross/adventure bike. I will mainly be using it for communiting around London, with potential weekend cylcing trips away.

I have come across 2 bikes in my price range which i would love your help with.

the first is the Alpkit sonder camino AI sram apex1 mechanical v1

and the other is the planet x full monty SL apex1

I have looked at other options, but my problem is i tend to require an XL frame.

What would you all recommend?

Cheers,

Look like reasonable value for the money. Both have BB5 brakes which get a bit of a hammering on here. Give them a go if you can.

Given your budget have a look at Gumtree etc and see what's available in your area. You can get some great bargains;

I would’nt want to commute/ride daily on BB5s. Budget for an upgrade to TRP Spyres (about £100)

If you're on a budget you don't want to immediately spend a hundred quid on an upgrade. If you can find something with Spyres or whatever already fitted is a more cost effective solution.

Thanks for the info, is it a difficult aftermarket upgrade? im thinking i may upgrade to the BB7s.
I just bought the calipers and the bike shop did the rest. My bike was heavily reduced and I got the brakes in Xmas sale. Financially it wasn’t an issue

It seems odd that PX who claim to build bikes to order cannot customise at cost
