Altercation with an Aston Martin

Not my clip but this chap has a disagreement with the drive r of an Aston Martin who took offence at the cyclist in front of him daring to stop at an amber-to-red light rather than go through. During the course of their discussion the cyclist asks "What does an amber light mean?" "Proceed if safe" was the AM drivers reply. I alway thought it meant stop?

Oh, spot the tit at about 33 seconds in doing the safe cycling cause no good whatsoever!

means stop, unless you can't/it's not safe to.

AFAIK amber has no legal significance - it only serves to warn of an impending red or green, which do.

Completely wrong, amber after green means STOP, unless not safe to do so, e.g. to close to the stop line. Unfortunately most people seem to think it means "go faster".

The driver was a plank, shame the cyclist didn't point out amber means stop, not go if safe to do so.

(c)the red-with-amber signal shall, subject in a case where it is displayed at the same time as the green arrow signal to sub-paragraph (f), denote an impending change to green or a green arrow in the indication given by the signals but shall convey the same prohibition as the red signal;

[...]
(e)the amber signal shall, when shown alone, convey the same prohibition as the red signal, except that, as respects any vehicle which is so close to the stop line that it cannot safely be stopped without proceeding beyond the stop line, it shall convey the same indication as the green signal or green arrow signal which was shown immediately before it;

I did ask the driver what amber meant meaning to stress that it meant stop. However, I think it was more potent to challenge him on his own terms. Frequently, telling someone that they're plain wrong just makes it easier for them to dismiss anything that doesn't tally with how they already see the world.
Thanks Angelfishsolo, but I don't think I made him look like an idiot...

It seems I was wrong :cry:

In fact, while checking the rules, I found out that traffic lights are even stricter than I originally thought: the whole length of your vehicle must cross the stop line before the light turns red! I never knew that (but then I don't drive a long vehicle).

Thats one of Ben's videos. He sometimes posts on here. Amber means stop if after green (unless its unsafe to do so).

EDIT I see he's posted above now.

reiver, I'm using a Mini DVR III from dogcamsport. The footage isn't HD but I prefer the smaller bullet cameras and separate recorders. I don't know if it's still true, but bullet cameras also tended to perform better in low light.

The bullet camera's are CCD where as ContourHD and the like are CMOS. CCD handles low light far better. I have dogcam 2, during the winter I had it rear facing with the screen on my handle bars, on unlt roads the CCD sensor made it look very clear and bright, almost like daylight but in black and white.

I've heard that the VIO POV 1.5HD is not that good in low light.
But apart from that, units which have a separated camera and recorder will generally use a CCD which gives better performance in low light.
