Handlebars on the Cube MTB come as standard as 800mm which I have found a little width so want to get a narrower set, I don't want to cut these down in case I decide I still prefer the wide ones. Looking on Fleecebay at 700mm ones, but there are both Ali & Carbon, is there a benefit from either?

If you don't want to cut them down then just move all the furniture inboard and see if you get on with that first. Find your preferred width then cut down, much cheaper and reversable.

Weight and strength in a crash tend to be the differences, at least in road bars.

Carbon will often be lighter, but in a crash may snap/crack whilst aluminium may only bend.
