Amazon gift card

How is this supposed to work? I was given one as a Christmas bonus at work and it says it is can only be used to buy eligible products.

Everything I want to buy says gift option not available. Does this mean I can't use the gift card to buy it or have I misunderstood?

And if that is the case, what is the point of having a gift card I can't use?

I think that's all to do with gift wrapping and adding gift tags etc? I thought all you did was type in the gift card number at the checkout.

When you get to the checkout part of completing the order there is a box asking for the input of the gift voucher number.

The gift option might be for gift wrapping and third party vendors don't offer this.

Okay, I get it but how do I know if something is eligible to be bought with the gift card.

There are things I'd like and would buy them now if the gift card covered it but they could wait until payday if not.

You can't use a gift card to buy a gift card, I think that's about it.

"Gift options" are wrapping and having the receipt in a sealed envelope so the recipient doesn't see it.

If you do not smoke, about 5' 8" tall, and you don't dribble, you may be eligible.

If you go to 'your account' there is a gift card and top-up section. You can just add the card there and it will be credited to your account and applied to your next purchase. I did it a few days ago with a card I was given. You don't have to wait until you actually want to buy something.
