I am no sailing fan, but Ben Ainsley could be about to pull off the biggest come back in sporting history.

In a first to nine race NZ were 8-1 up, the USA team sacked their skipper half way through the race and drafted in Ben Ainslie who has turned it round to 8-8! This guy must be one hell of a sailor.

And by the way these boats dont float on water anymore, they fly above it, it's spectacualr, even if you dont know what is going on, which I dont!!

I haven't and I'm sorry I haven't because it's fairly spectacular and exciting.

Whats the comeback, wasn't he a medallist in the Olympics last year. Give the poor bloke a chance to disappear and then come back.

I agree, it's spectacular watching! Glad I bought a new HDTV!

I'm amazed how the USA have fought back and found the extra boat speed along with the tactical nous. The Kiwis were unfortunate to loose when they ran out of race-time by 5 mins a few days back. Got a lot of i-player catching-up to do when I get back!
To be honest, I want the Kiwis to win ...

Ainslie has won 9? of the 13 races since he took over as tactician - impressive. Also, the team were fined (if that's the word) two points/time? at the start of the contest.
My interest is that my son is close friends with one of the GB Olympic squad - understudy to Ben etc - and it's all very 'now'. Lots of munny involved too. The hulls of the boats cost £3 million or so...one way to be 'tide' into a big loan if you fancy a punt. (Sorry - wrong expression!)

I used to enjoy a bit of America's Cup stuff when they sailed in proper yachts.

it's completely bonkers - the kind of thing that would have GaryA spitting tacks - but it's absolutely wild. Those boats are not even in the water half the time.

As a carbon freak I have really enjoyed watching on bbc2 at lunch. The graphics give a real insight for a land lover . The noise of the carbon
sail is just weird. Ainsley has turned the whole thing around in the last week, local boy!!

I disagree, the foiling Cats are far more exciting to watch and add a whole new dynamic to the sport. It could move sailing out of minority interest TV wise.

I agree. You can really see them on the limit and neck to neck. Most of the time sailing (like shooting sports) is tedious beyond belief, but these things really shift, and you can see the battle.
